Dr Neelya Agalawatta

Professional Background

Dr Agalawatta completed her Bachelor of Medicine at the university of Newcastle in 2012. She undertook her medical residency on the Central Coast  before commencing specialist training in psychiatry with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). During her training, she worked in a range of clinical settings, including a specialist Mood Disorders Unit and a Mother and Baby Unit, gaining experience in supporting people with a wide variety of mental health concerns.  She was awarded fellowship of the RANZCP and a Master of Psychiatry on completion of her specialist training.

Dr Agalawatta has worked as a Staff Specialist, Visiting Medical Officer and private practice Consultant Psychiatrist.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Agalawatta has an interest in the broader field of Psychiatry. She is a former member of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry Trainee Advisory Board and is currently a  member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal of New South Wales. She has also contributed to several publications in academic journals.

Specialisation

Dr Agalawatta has a special interest in women’s health, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and trauma disorders. She welcomes referrals for general adult psychiatry and works with patients experiencing a range of mental health concerns. Please note Dr Agalawatta does not currently accept referrals for ADHD assessment.
